2016 Central Texas All-Linemen Camp (Report & Results)!

CenTex prospect, Jaxon Player (Waco Midway, '18) was the camp's strongest prospect.

On the Temple Central Texas Christian School's campus, it was definitely scorching hot and the prospects in attendance at the CenTex All-Lineman Camp came out with the intention on making a name for themselves in the process. There were a number of young prospects with both skills and prototypical size that will most likely receive their share of Division 1 attention after the upcoming football season begins. In addition, there were others who showed that heart is the one test that is immeasurable.

The coaches voted underclassman Mario Reyes, Jr. (San Antonio Brennan, '19) as the top offensive lineman performer due to his ability to display a dog fighting like persona in the trenches and making great blocks while the defensive coaches selected Jaxon Player (Waco Midway, '18) as the top defensive lineman performer because he simply couldn't be stopped with his explosiveness off of the ball.

As always with lineman and one-on-one's, it gets very intense and at times tempers can flare. Some of the prospects that did exceptionally well on the offensive side were 2018's Ha'Keem White (Waco Midway) and Samuel Pinkney (Harker Heights).  Both of those guys will most likely be playing at the Division 1 level in college. Jemal Alexander (Burnet, '17) will most likely be a small school prospect who doesn't stop until the whistle blows. Bolton Leafa (Round Rock, '19) lined up at center and caused a lot of destruction. He attends a school that is known for producing FBS offensive linemen. 2017 Wacoans Tyrese Beasley, Cameron Gutierrez, and Carnealus Manning are all undersized guys that impressed upon all that one cannot judge a book by its cover. Taunty Tuitasi (Harker Heights, '18) takes up a lot of space in the trenches and rarely ever gets moved backwards while Thomas Xinic (Austin High, '17) was very consistent on the day as well.

On the defensive side of the trenches, other standouts included Godswill Nwakamma (Leander, '17) who was explosive off the edge and could possibly make a good linebacker prospect as well. Other guys off the edge that excitedly showcased their talents were 2018's Dillon Mata (Austin High), Clayton Blank (Belton), and Daniel Byrd (Centerville). Expect for those guys to have strong resume's as juniors. Juan "Bull" Licea, Jr. (Gonzales, '18) has showed that he's improved on his speed and ability to use his hands, having his way on every snap. He's one of the top defensive tackle prospects in his class thus far. Jordan Cryer (Vista Ridge, '17) has a hostile style of play in the space between the football and the QB. The wildcard of the group was Vincent Natalroman (Cibolo Steele, '18) because he will be playing on the offensive line for the Knights this season. He's very tenacious and scary to watch when chasing QB's.

Lastly, keep your eyes on 2020 player Al-Amir Ward (Killeen) who is continuing to grow in size and skills and will be intriguing to watch in the future.

Testing

The 40-yard dash was timed similar to the pro scouts with a hand-held stopwatch that stops after the prospect's whole body crosses the line (legit timing method). In the past, we've made errors in using track & field's .24 seconds added on to a hand time for the short sprint races in that sport. However, according to the Physical Education Update, .16 seconds is the time needed to be added on to a hand timed specifically for the 40-yard dash or subtracted from legit timing when converting to a hand time: http://www.physicaleducationupdate.com/public/555.cfm

The Bench Press weight was 225 lbs. due to it being an All-Lineman camp. 185 was benched by a few of the much younger prospects.

CenTex '17 Prospect Spotlight! Jeremy Brown, DB (Brownwood)

CenTex 2017 prospect Jeremy Brown (Brownwood, 5'11" 175, 4.6) is a sure tackler that loves to come up in run support to keep big plays from taking place. He's also solid in the passing game steadily improving his skills on getting between the ball and the receiver.
