Gonzales 2014 defensive tackle prospect Zac Perez-Clack (#63)
Many college prospects attended TA’s Combine, held on June
29, in hopes of putting together top performances and separating themselves
from the bunch. One prospect that was able to do so was Zach Perez-Clack, a
2014 defensive tackle prospect from Gonzales HS.
After strong performances in both position drills and
1-on-1’s, the 6’0’’, 280 pound Perez-Clack was named the Top Defensive Lineman
of the combine. He also showed his strength by setting a combine record after
benching 225 pounds, 18 times.
Perez-Clack also put together a 5.12 shuttle time (5-10-5),
and reached 7-10.00 on the broad jump.
“I thought I did pretty well in the drills,” started
Perez-Clack, “I got a lot of hands on help from the coaches there, too. It was
just a good experience to get out there and compete with the other guys.”
Being a strong athlete, as mentioned earlier, definitely
gives Perez-Clack an advantage on the field. His strength is the main reason
behind being a handful for the offensive line and players in the backfield and
is what most consider the best aspect of his game.
“I definitely use my strength to my advantage. I have pretty
decent hands but my strength helps make up for my lack of speed and size,” said
Perez-Clack.
Perez-Clack had a successful junior season, on both the
offensive and defensive sides, in which he was named First Team All-District
Center and Second Team All-District Defensive Tackle. At the center, he was
able to record 70 knockdowns and 45 pancakes. On the defensive side, he racked
up 3 forced fumbles, 3 sacks, 50 solo tackles, and 10 tackles for losses.
Though yet to receive any offers, Perez-Clack feels that he
can make his presence felt at the next level. Particularly in a 3-4 defense, using
his strength, especially, he has the ability to power over the center and cause
havoc in the backfield.
As for the rest of the summer, Perez-Clack is still waiting
on feedback from attending the summer camps of Midwestern State and UMHB and he
also has plans on attending the camp held by the University of Incarnate Word.
TA’s Scouting Scoop: A strong, constant presence in the
backfield. He knows how to stay low and always penetrates the line of
scrimmage. He can learn to use his hands better but is still able to outduel
bigger offensive linemen.
